However, there’s a simple solution that can help you get on top of your workload: a to do list!
Okay, not the most innovative approach. But don’t underestimate how useful a to do list can be! Writing down all the tasks you need to complete helps you easily keep track of what needs to be done by when. Plus, there’s something very satisfying and motivating about checking off tasks from your list.
Here are a few tips to help you use your to do list effectively:
Start with the most important tasks
When you’re creating your to do list, put the most important or time-sensitive tasks at the top. This will help you prioritize your work and ensure that you’re focusing on the tasks that will have the biggest impact once completed.
Break big tasks into smaller steps
If you have a big project or task that seems overwhelming, try breaking it down into smaller, more manageable steps. A big, scary and overwhelming project, once broken down into small steps, turns into an easily achievable task!
Go with hand written vs typed
If you love your typed lists, it’s certainly okay to stick with them. However, there’s something about hand writing your to do list (whether it be on paper or on a digital notepad) that makes it more motivating to complete. It’s easy to type out every little thing you want to get done, but hand writing your tasks helps you slow down and be mindful of what really should go on your list.
Be realistic
While it’s important to challenge yourself, it’s also important to be realistic about what you can accomplish in a day. Try not to overload your to do list with too many tasks or you may end up feeling overwhelmed and stressed. It may also be helpful to categorize tasks as “must do”, “should do” and “would like to do” to ease some of the pressure.
